Hierarchical Bottom-Up Modelling Use Cases

This section presents country-specific examples of the use of bottom-up population modelling to generate gridded population estimates. In each of these cases, we applied a bottom-up modeling approach due to the unavailability of recent and reliable census data. Many of these countries had outdated or incomplete population censuses, leading to significant data gaps in demographic information.

By leveraging bottom-up modelling, we were able to estimate population numbers at high spatial resolution, using localized data sources such as satellite imagery, microcensuses, and administrative records. This approach allowed us to fill in data gaps and provide more accurate and timely population estimates for these countries that had no recent census updates.
